38 million children in the globe have hearing loss that is “disabling. Hearing loss is commonplace and has the potential to negatively impact multiple aspects of a person’s life if it is not addressed or if the individual need to communicate are not met. Hearing loss can affect quality of life as well as access to communication via spoken language that can hinder the development of children’s spoken language and increase the risk of developing dementia.
The signs of hearing loss could include:
- Speech muffles and other sounds.
- Problems understanding words, particularly when you are in a crowd, or in a noisy environment.
- It’s difficult to hear those letters that don’t contain vowels.
- Sometimes, people ask others to speak slower in a clear and loud manner.
- You’re looking to increase the volume of your radio or TV.
- Beware of certain social gatherings.
- Not being able to sleep because of background noise.
